Interview from New York…Valerie Boster

I’d like to introduce you to Valerie Boster.  When I first met her  in NY whilst modeling I thought she was a model as well- in fact she works at American Vogue!   A fashionista but also a real surfer girl which accounts for her wonderful solar energy and down to earth attitude.

How is it working with Anna Wintour?

Inspirational. She is always a step ahead.

You must have access to the most amazing clothes at Vogue-are Vogue girls allowed to borrow?

Working here definitely exposes you to the best of the collections, and of course designer introductions, but we do not borrow anything that has been reserved for an editorial.
What does your day look like?

Thankfully everyday is different, so I have no idea what to expect, but for the most part I am working on about 5-10 different shoots spanning about 2-3 issues, an upcoming event like the Costume Institute Ball at The Met in May or Fashion’s Night Out in September, seeing new faces to post to Vogue.com’s Model Wall and keeping up with any projects that models are working on to pitch for future stories.

What are your duties at Vogue?

Casting all models, hair & make-up for Vogue and Vogue.com.
Favourite pieces for the Fall season?

The Row-velvet men’s bed slippers
Celine-ever since Phoebe took over I have found myself crafting my looks to be more like the Celine girl.

Thakoon-pants
Altuzarra-adore the utility of the parka over something delicate like a flimsy dress…am also very much missing the 90’s.
Equipment silk blouse in cream-it goes from leather pants to a pencil skirt and makes everything look that much more chic
T by Alex Wang-epitome of Day to Night

Describe your style?
Minimal with a hint of gypset. I can’t refuse a great tailored black blazer and equally cannot resist fringe.

Fashion faux pas?
Nude sheer tights…if there were no over the knee boots, black, gray or any other color hose in the world other than nude then I would rather be bare-legged.

Your favourite designers?
Celine, The Row, J Brand, Maje, Balenciaga, Thakoon, Gap, Isabel Marant

Any up and coming designers we should know about?

Altuzarra, Haakan, Prabal Gurung, Eddie Borgo, Haider Ackermann (been around, but he’s really finding his moment), Suno, Mandy Coon, and Carven.

The downtown girl who resides uptown.

Any women that inspire you?

Summers are spent….?
Surfing

Winters are spent….?
Skiing/snowboarding or at my family’s retreat in New Hampshire. No cable and no reception. Wine, board games, books…it’s heaven.

She has incredible good looks but at the same time she is intelligent, down to earth, in a word an inspiration to her generation of professional women. Best wishes for continued success!
