I would like to introduce you to my friend Saloni Lodha, a London based designer with really cool dresses and share with you  her thoughts about  style, inspirations and her collection.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was born in 1981, grew up in India and later moved to Hong Kong and London.
I studied in Mumbai then moved to Hong Kong in 2002, where I began setting up pop-up boutiques and selling one-off pieces of clothing that I had designed. I collaborated with artists in Hong Kong and artisans back home and my trunk shows quickly made a name through great press in leading magazines. In the summer of 2004, I went to St. Martins in London to do a summer course and learn pattern cutting and couture hand sewing, following my passion for design. Taken by the city’s energy and creativity, I decided to move there. In 2007 the time had come to create a label with my own signature style that subtly draws from my heritage but focuses on a more modern and romantic silhouette.

What is your main source of inspiration?
Always inspired when travelling and reading

Tell us a bit about your Fall 2011 collection?

The Fall collection was showcased in the Ballroom of the Savile Club. Created by May and Walter Burns in the 1890s and reconstructed by an eminent firm of Parisian architects and decorators, the Ballroom provided French opulence and a romantic backdrop to the presentation. Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s photographs from the book ‘Earth from the Air’ inspired a journey to explore the changing colours of the sky and aerial views. The Northern Lights (aurora borealis) provided the inspiration for the dreamy sky prints and a strong contrast was added through geometric prints inspired by city grids and lights as if viewed from the air. Rich textured wool, felted wool and leather add weight to the collection. Jeweled colours in tones of reds and berry are used alongside splashes of blue. The sky’s luminescence is expressed through hand spun Banarasi lurex brocade. Summer sunsets are captured through metallic gold fabrics. Intricate fabric techniques and embroideries accentuate the brand’s Indian roots. Delicate accents are provided by bugles embroidered on leather, shimmering sequin panels and whimsical embroidered birds which inject a further sense of fun and freedom to the collection.
